Group 5 NE reflections

NE Reflections:

1) WHAT HAS THE TRIP TAUGHT YOU ABOUT ANOTHER CULTURE?

The trip has taught me to learn to accept the different cultures of the world. For example in UK, the people are very open and friendly, meaning that they talk to anyone and everyone, which is something not often seen in Singapore. The people there also dresses differently, like they cross dress and walk around the street like a normal thing to do, unlike, Singapore, for when somebody does that, people in the street would stare and point, and cross dressing is recognised only in theatres. Therefore, I learnt to accept and embrace the different cultures of the world. Also, they are extremely friendly. For example, when they see people, even strangers, in the morning, they will greet them with a warm smile and a friendly greeting, whereas, in Singapore, although we see our neighbours everyday, most of us do not even greet them. The people at UK are also very active. For example, during our walking tour in London, we saw many people dressed up in unique clothing and participating in a Charity walk!

2)WHAT ARE SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU CAN LEARN FROM THE BRITISH PEOPLE IN ORDER TO IMPROVE SINGAPORE?

I feel that Singaporeans should learn from the British in terms of attitude, as the British are really friendly and caring people, and their service is excellent. For example, during our dinner, they constantly come to check if we need anything else like more water, or they would just come by the table and ask if we're enjoying the food. Unlike some restaurants in Singapore where they serve you your food and they just disappear. Singapore should also try to have more trees to upkeep the Clean and Green City, as I felt that the British was putting in more effort to keep their country green by having lots of trees and having different methods to save electricity.

3)WHAT ARE SOME THINGS THE BRITISH CAN LEARN FROM SINGAPORE?
The British can learn from Singapore by putting more rubbish bins. As I walk around UK, there is hardly any rubbish bins and I have no idea where to throw my rubbish, unlike Singapore where its so convenient to just throw my rubbish as there are rubbish bins throughout the whole island.they can also learn to manage their organisation of infrastructure as their land used are uneven, some places are very crammed while others are very spaced out, it is a waste of land.

4)AFTER GOING ON THIS TRIP WHAT ARE THE ASPECTS OF BEING IN SINGAPORE THAT YOU HAVE LEARNT TO APPRECIATE BETTER?
Our weather and climate.Even though Singapore is very warm, it is more stable, unlike in UK, where the weather has drastic changes, furthermore, we do not have winter so we will not have to worry about things such as winter wear and having to adapt. Our security. Here in Singapore, we always feel safe and sound, no matter where we go, We do not have to worry about pickpockets and we know that we are always safe. Our small land space. Although we are small, i feel it is advantageous. We do not need to drive for 3 whole hours just to get to another place in the country, hence it is more convenient.
